I have made it to probably 4 or 5 of them. They are pretty interesting to watch. A few years ago ( after walking in right behind Bobby Knight), I was able to watch Deron Williams play.
Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Zeke on July 08, 2006, 05:39:35 PM Just came back from watching a few games over at The Pit and The PEB. Some good teams were there. Spotted was SMU's head coach looking at what I guessed was one of the boys from SOC.
I didn't spot any of the NT coaching staff, though I am sure they were there. Also..............check out the new lighted signs as you walk in The Pit. A really good looking couple is featured in one of them ;D Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Coach on July 08, 2006, 06:29:52 PM Anybody catch your eye that wasn't a highly touted prospect?
Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Zeke on July 09, 2006, 07:29:43 PM I jotted some things down in my program, but don't have that program with me now. I will write some things I saw in a bit.
Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Zeke on July 11, 2006, 08:55:46 PM Ok, sorry this has taken awhile to put on here. Time is limited for me lately.
To start, I saw most of the afternoon games at The Pit on Saturday because of the adequate seating. The 4 games at the PEB have just the 2 or 3 rows of seating up above. With parents and other players already watching on, it is madness up there. First game I saw was the South Texas Stallions 17 vs the G2S Magic Elite. I think of Coach as I am watching because Magic Elite seems to like the bank shot (after seeing Caoches' post about bank shots the other day). The ST Stallions had one player that was 6'9" (Ty Gough) that first caught my eye. As the game went on, however, I saw a lack of hustle at times coming down the floor from him. Not D1 ready. Elite won After that game I bounced around from The Pit to the PEB looking for a high talent game. In the early evening I stopped to see a game in the PEB featuring the Houston Heat 17 vs Urban DFW Elite. While the Heat tryed hard, the were no match for the DFW Elite. As I watched the game more I noticed the HUGE line of coaches along the back wall. Ok, perhaps I wasn't the only one thinking some talent was on this team. The team was VERY tall and athletic compared to the rest of the field. Sometimes they get a bit too cute, but you can see the athleticism. Urban DFW Elite 00 Byron Brown 6'3" - I liked him. Made many penetrations. 22 J'Mison Morgan 6'10" - Would like to see him move without the ball more. Very slender and quick for his size. Other players on the team played well too, these were just the 2 I made quick notes on while I was watching. I may have missed some really good players. Also, I don't know if anybody I saw was a highly touted prospect. I am not that close the scene to know that. Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Coach on July 12, 2006, 08:33:25 AM That's good, we will probably see those names pop up somewhere before long.
Was the 6'3 Brown a point guard? My team played a couple of games last night and we had a post make 6 bank shots (all from the high post area near the free throw line). One note about that game (because I know everyone cares). Both teams only have 5 players, and our post (that I mentioned before) had just done a squat/power clean/plyo box workout at our field house. Anyway, he was doing great, but starting to cramp up. With 1:10 left in the game tied at 57, he finally couldn't move anymore, and we had to play the last 1:10 5 on 4. We started off on defense in the ol' 2-2 zone, got a steal and a layup. Then our patented 2-2 zone held the rest of the way and we won 59-57. We are thinking about making this our base defense now. Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Scrappy on July 12, 2006, 04:40:48 PM Time for the 2-2 defense with one player just cherry pickin' .
Yeah, Brown was the PG. Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Scrappy on April 21, 2007, 12:18:05 PM Just figured I would look up the two names I mentioned to see if I had any clue what I was talking about last Summer:
Byron Brown I cannot find any information for I thought it was this guy: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=193&p=8&c=1&nid=301339 but the timeline doesn't add up. J'Mison Morgan is a 4 star stud: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=1970104 Title: Re: The Great American Shootout is coming to Denton Post by: Scrappy on May 26, 2007, 11:53:26 AM One more name I mentioned on here a year ago:
http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=50585 J'Mison Morgan is #2 in the class of 2008 per a list by Cooley on gmg. |
