I would think with the new recruiting class - there will be a dramatic change in attitude which will morph to the court. It is obvious (based on news reports) that all of the recruits are excited about playing for SS and will be changing the face of the program.
It may not seem like a big deal - but the past regime had a "walk it up the court" mentality and that is the type of player that SS had to work with. Her system of "94 feet of heat" needs aggressive, competitive, "hungry beasts" chomping at the bit to win and I don't think she had that type of personnel this year. Some kids can pick up on it - but playing aggressively for 40 minutes takes much more than conditioning - it's a mentality and I did not get the feel from this year's squad that they had that "step on ya neck" desire. They gave up a few games that they controlled - which is unacceptable.
My opinion - from a recruiting standpoint - it's not really the accolades that SS was looking for while recruiting her current class - it was toughness, quickness, and bulk - which she accomplished. At the mid-major level - you're not going to get a Maya Moore or Brittney Griner (until the women's game grows to the magnitude of the men's game) - but you will get fundamentally sound, eager to learn, hidden gems and I think SS will prove that with next year's squad.
Don't expect any of the returning players to be difference makers next year - it's all going to fall on the incoming class.
My Pre-Season Starting Five:
Brittney Hudson 5'7" (PG)
Raquel Cuffie 5'10" (SG)
Niqky Hughes 6'0" (Wing)
Jasmine Godbolt 6'0" (Forward)
Chynna Burwell 6'4" (Center)
Expect alot of playing time for the bench pressing & pushing the ball for 40 minutes.
Turning this program around can be done! SS has the tools.
