This is in relation to how the media can totally slurp kids up and getting on your nerves. There's no question in his 4 years at Duke the media totally made Redick into a demi-god. And hell...he was a terrific p_layer_. One of the best releases I've ever seen, and he was slippery when getting off picks. He hit alot of game altering shots. Hell he's the alltime ACC scoring leader.

I'd argue most of the hate leveled against him was because he played for Duke.

Tyler Hansbrough on North Carolina is maybe the most canonized figure we've seen since. I mean the media LOVES this kid. And yes, he's a TREMENDOUS p_layer_. Unreal at times. But sometimes the slurping up the media does is borderline ridiculous. Did Jay Bilas just say this evening that MICHAEL JORDAN DIDN'T OUT COMPETE Tyler Hansbrough?? MICHAEL JORDAN???

Love him or hate him(and I hated him) - Jordan was without a doubt the most intense competitor I've ever seen in a team sport.

WTF.

If Tyler played for Duke people would be bombing ESPN and CBS for the kinds of stuff people are saying(and have said in the last 3 years) about this kid.

Hansbrough > God + Alcindor + Jordan + Chamberlain + Walton + name your alltime college p_layer_

If the media had focused on Hansbrough like that the entire season, like they did with Redick from the first game, I would agree. However, as a more casual fan (due to my job during basketball season), I heard much more about Beasley this year, and even Love more. The only time I started hearing about Hansbrough was toward the end of the season when some debated who the p_layer_ of the year should be. Nothing even close to the knob slobbing that went on with Reddick. Again, this is from someone who did not have the chance to watch an entire college game until late in the year, and learned what was going on from the radio and sports websites. It seems the Hansbrough love has multiplied lately, in the latter part of the season and the post season tournaments, whereas people were sick of hearing about the greatness of Redick before Christmas.

You are right about the Duke thing, and the new poster boy for that is Paulus. The night Duke beat Belmont by one, I had listened on the radio as ESPN analysts went on and on about how tough, smart, and great Paulus was. Then he got abused on the defensive end for two games, and I heard them the other day discuss how Duke needed to recruit some more athleticism on the perimeter. Had Duke held on and got past the first weekend, the Paulus love would have been right there with Hansbrough's.

No dude...they have been doing this with Tyler for about 2 years now. For whatever reason no one is calling them out on it. Seriously...my point was people unfairly think Duke kids are the only ones the media does this kinda crap with, but that's not true AT ALL. Kevin Love gets alot of the same treatment...especially out here. I can only imagine if he stays in school how bad it'll be next season.

Paulas is usually slammed in the media these days from what I've seen. Not sure why you think he's revered at all.

And Dckie V's love for Duke is a bit overplayed. Vitale is in love with with all legendary teams who have been consistently great since he was a kid. Duke, UNC, Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas...he just goes ape over. He worshipped Dean Smith. He worshipped Coach Knight.

It's way more than Duke - and yet somehow Duke is what everyone focuses on.

Paulus only got slammed after he was killed off the dribble non-stop for two games. Before that, it was all glowing reports. He even had a cream puff interview with Dan Patrick published in SI the week before the tourney. If they had survived the first weekend, it would have kept up.

Bringing up Vitale is probably the real cause of the hatred. He was the main driving force behind the Redick thing. Before that it was Battier. Battier would make a layup and Vitale would spooge his pants. Redick wasn't as bad, but Redick as a p_layer_ was more annoying than Battier (that's probably the real reason for p_layer_ hate...the grassroots "that p_layer_ is just fun to hate" factor).

I really haven't noticed a Redick type of hype for Hansbrough. Like I said, I never heard him mentioned until the p_layer_ of the year debate came up. Since the tourney started, it's been all Curry all the time.

Maybe it's there, but I am just not tuned in enough to hear it, and I was when Redick was playing.
