I hope that the only JUCO players we're seriously looking at are posts. Looking at Marquis Young's stats...I'm gonna go ahead and say thats a pass. Theres no indication of his minutes...so I don't give to much cred to the low scoring numbers...but his percentages are awful. 45% from the field for a guy who never shoots more than 3 feet from the bucket? 35% from the line? If you go through his game by game it seems like he got significant time against Lewis & Clark...he was 6 of 10 from the field, but was 0 of 10 from the line. After just watching us self-destruct at the line last night...nah...let him sign elsewhere.
As for Wellington, Thompson and Scott...I just don't see the need to add another JUCO wing or combo...we already have a crowded backcourt...McCoy, Dennis, Thompson and Mangrum should all see time at the 2,3 next season...and we have a need at back-up point guard. If we do use a scholarship on the wing, I'd prefer it be a freshman who can slowly work his way in and contribute for 3 or 4 years. That said...Thompson seems like the best scorer...but I like the line on Scott, 11pts, 5 rbds, 2asts...6'4" 220...could be a Rich Young like glue guy which I think is lacking severly from this years team.
Tramiel seems like the best bet of this group. His size and scoring ability reminds me of Michael DeGreate...one of my favorites in the JJ era. My concern would be a 6'8" 240 / 6'7" 225 starting frontcourt is still pretty small...but it may be the best option. Heres hoping Howerton can contribute next season
