Very similar response to WKU... starting to sound like wah, wah, wah... (you know, the teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoons).
Tough, tough loss - to say the least. They're making the record books for all the wrong reasons. Besides the same old thing (turnovers, assists, free throws), something happened last night that I haven't seen since some of the out of conference games. Some of the girls were "scared". I mean, "take me out, coach - I don't want to play"... SCARED. From what I could tell by watching (you can only see what the camera sees), the lack of aggression and lack of communication (confusion on defense) set the tone for the game and MTSU pounced all over it.
The bench produced 36 points. The starters had 15. It is now evident that not only has it hurt this team with lack of depth and experience at PG & Post - but lack of player leadership on the floor is allowing them to drown on the road.
Decent game by Hughes. Would have liked to see some assists from her - but, she did take care of the ball and stopped the bleeding from that 26-0 run. The freshmen played physical. Too many mistakes - but, that's OK - they didn't "quit".
I feel the same about MT as I did about WKU. They are not 68 points better than UNT... Their coach has the same philosophy as SS... run, push, and run some more... with some more experience - UNT has the weapons to be competitive with teams of MT's calibur. You can teach ball handle and how to shoot, you can't teach heart. The "youngsters" on UNT have heart.
Mark my words - this win will come back to haunt MT. He still had his starters on the floor and they were up by 60 (I'm sure to keep everyone's stats up). I hope there is a bitter taste in the mouth of the underclassmen and they never forget the feeling of humiliation that WKU & MT imposed on them. I'm not saying "revenge" is a motivator - but I think everyone can identify with "payback's a *****".
