There is the objective and subjective answer...
Objectively - impossible to answer. Just because UALR got beat (nicely) by South Alabama (a team that was projected with about the same pre-season votes as us). UALR was the West's top finisher in the pre-season poll. So, by everyone's estimation - the best team (supposedly) with alot of "seasoned" talent, lost to a middle of the pack team. Kind of like that movie "Any Given Sunday"... when the stars align and the plan is executed - who knows.
Subjectively - we could win. At the least, the West. The biggest games will come from the East and from Denver (west). Denver is a home game, so I like our odds. If they can neutralize Clark (MT) - they can beat Middle TN. If they can hang (for 40 mins) with WKU (very athletic), they have enough to handle that game too. This team (on paper) has more talent then alot of the schools we will face. Although the Fresh(wo)men are not very consistent yet - 3 of the 4 were being recruited by Major Division 1 programs. Kellum was also a major D1 recruit and out of HS, Burwell was recruited by (and committed to) UVA (ACC school). Hughes (TX) & Hudson (Rice)... obviously good enough to be recruited by those programs. So, nice level of talent - that probably would have sat if they went Major D1 - for a couple years or wouldn't have a major impact - but, at the mid-major level... if they can COME TOGETHER... are 1. very athletic, 2. can score, 3. know how to win. I don't think they can go into any game lightly - but if they follow "The System" - SS could be "raising" some monsters.
What will hurt (on any given night):
Foul trouble in the post
No depth at PG
Turnovers
Injuries
