I listened to Samford - actually watched UAB through CSTV....
Looking at the play by play (and listening to the stream) for the Samford game - besides the foul trouble... if you can't put the ball in the hoop, you obviously can't win. Couldn't really "see" what the emotion was on the court but it seemed with the "catch-up" they were playing, no one was able to get on the same page - no flow to the game. Still having some trouble taking care of the ball and we need more defensive rebounds (second chance pts are killing us). It was obviously a physical game and it doesn't look like they handled that challenge.
I watched the UAB game and they had more consistency. Defensively, they were working well together. Not having Hudson in the starting line-up has proven to be more productive for the team. I like Hughes at the Point. Not a true PG, but has the maturity to control the game. Kellum (as predicted) is finding her flow. BJ had a better game (considering she had 4 pts against Samford). I was getting the feeling that she may be outclassed by her teammates, but yesterday was a better game for her. Would like to see her assume more responsibility in some of the more even matchups (she scored 19 against a UAB freshman, but couldn't do anything with Samford, Texas, and some of the other stronger, "older" teams). Burwell's minutes are dropping (rightly so) but would like to see more minutes for Cuffie & Torru. I think these 2 bring alot of spark and do alot of "grunt work", with their "little bit of everything" work ethic. Godboldt is crucial to the team because besides Timms, is the only post that can be depended on. Timms has 5 fouls to give and uses all of them... plays HARD every minute that she gets - but just doesn't have the athleticism that Godboldt has... Give Godboldt - Timms or Burwells height and you have a MONSTER... Lucky for us, the Sunbelt doesn't have the likes of Griner (Baylor), Reed (Texas), or Charles (Uconn) to play with every night - so we should be OK in conference play.
SMU is coming up this week.... that will be a better test - to see how much they've grown (chemistry wise).
