TOPIC: What Can We Do With Our Schedule

What Can We Do With Our Schedule 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 14
.....to please everybody? Granted, I don't think any of us were happy with it last season, but some folks are kinda unrealistic with the kind of teams they think should visit Denton on a regular basis. We can't afford to bring in alot of marquee games when we can't sell the place out(even against some big names).

Yes, this is kind of a tired topic, but some of the guys over on the other board just get me frustrated. Plus, we have like 5 months till the schedule is released(probably), so we have alot of time on our hands.

((I hope the schedule comes out sooner as I'd like to try and come back for the home opener....wanna see the banners go up))

I know it's not from a lack of trying. I know that RV was in talks with both Houston & K State about a home and home , but I don't know if anything ever got done.
However it's games like 1 and done vs Boise that really irk me. To me that's just unacceptable

Hopefully with games @ home vs UTA,Rice & Tech next season our attendance should be the highest in years

Back in the '07-'08 season we averaged around 3300 I believe. It would be really nice to break that mark.

Scheduling is a challenge for NT, although there seem to quite a few fans that think it is a snap to upgrade the schedule. NT has turned into a good ball club that is hard to beat at home. Add to that, NT generates next to nothing in ticket revenues at home; and scheduling becomes very difficult. Natural rivals such as SMU, TCU, Tulsa, New Mexico State and UTEP want no part of NT now.

The MVC schools and others with similar issues with scheduling gain little from playing NT. Frankly, teams like Indiana St, Missouri State and Wichita State are not big draws here and NT playing there does not make their schedule significantly more attractive either. The average NT BB fans takes notice of Big Six conference and Texas CUSA teams and little else.

I do think that last years home schedule was the worse I can remember. The NT staff trying to sell SE Louisiana and Jackson State as premier competition made it even seem worse. The one thing I have noticed recently is that there is a small but growing home base that attend games despite who the opponent is. Unfortunately, the student support has dwindled to the point that if more than a few hundred show up it is an event. As a result, a lot of the games with the students out of school do not suffer in attendance as they once did.

Home scheduling problems exist for all Belt teams and I would guess most teams not in upper tier leagues. I think it is obvious that NT is trying to upgrade and highlight some of the best teams in their history. I think the best NT is going to be able to do is get one marquee home game a year with hopefully a few more with teams of approximately the same program level like Rice, Houston, Tulsa or New Mexico State. Throw in a Southland foe and maybe a MVC or MAC club and NT would have a decent schedule.
