Its gonna prove pointless. What is craziest is that I think UNT90 even played basketball here (or at least he's not-so-subtly made insinuations) yet I he's right up there with the others who only fly by the hoops forum when times are down to say JJ needs to go.

He also complained about how we didn't bother to go out and recruit a point guard last year, and wouldn't cop to being an ignorant moron even after I pointed out Alzee Williams.

He also chimed in during one of the basketball chats to complain about how the lack of consistency in this year is a sign that Johnny Jones isn't a good coach. When I pointed out that we graduated 4 players, THEN lost two starters and two reserves to injuries... He still didn't seem to realize why that might compromise our consistency.

There's a mass celebration being led by a fire-helmted hero after each loss now. They want Tasty's blood for sticking up for the bigger picture of the program while focusing on a tiny slice of the short-term.

What a great fan base.

I know.

Look, I'm not that thrilled right now either. The season seems close to spiraling out of control(boy do we need a win on Saturday). But man, some of those guys are just ridiculous. Except for game threads I'm this close to just posting over here.

Even if i'm the only one who does!

Its all just been submarined by the football program. All anyone is looking to do these days is distract themselves from the futility of the only program they honestly give a rats ass about. Whether its Craig Miller/The Ticket, Hijacking Hijacks, cut off penisse, family morals, how great or terrible UT may or may not be or JJ. The entire website's just become one big cluster fuck of frustration and misguided anger.

Combine my shitty new work schedule making it all but impossible to attend/listen to games with the endless number of basketball related faceplam threads over there... the only real grasp I have of this team comes directly from box scores and Vito.

I think you're on to something with the frustration and misguided anger. It's what I was talking about when I mentioned most of our fans have spent a lifetime thinking that anything our sports teams can or have accomplished is worthless or meaningless.

The whole thread over there has gotten to a point where I don't even want to log in and look at it anymore. Meanrob has some stuff that's legitimate, even if I don't share his opinion, but I have to spend so much time arguing with a constantly shifting target that I'd almost rather just quit and not bother.

I don't think I'm some sort of KRAM-style super-optimist who can see no wrong. And I don't think I'm being a sad sack and settling for crap just because we strung together a few good seasons.

Started out trying to say that we can enjoy Good while making the journey towards Very Good or Great. Wound up trying to explain how Gonzaga became Gonzaga. Started out trying to point out that some of our fans may be a little ignorant or naive about the difficulty of their demands, wound up arguing with a guy who seems to want us to be an overnight SuperFrankenstein of Gonzaga, Butler, WKU, George Mason, and any other college basketball team he's ever heard of.

I'd be surprised if there are many other fans out there (not counting present company on this island of joy and non-retardation) who are as frustrated and disappointed as I am over what's happened and what's happening to this season.

I don't think I've told anyone this, but I saved an extra schedule poster and the front page from one of my season ticket books. I have them stored away with at least one ticket stub from every game I've attended this season (all of which are sealed in a ziplock bag). Because my expectations going into this season were that we could have the sort of breakthrough year... The big conference run, the NCAA bid, maybe an upset win... The stuff I'm having people tell me I'm an idiot for not expecting or demanding.

I've been saving all this stuff in pristine condition so that I could get it all framed and have a permanent reminder of this season hanging on my wall. I scheduled my entire life around our non-conference schedule so that I could attend 11 out of our first 12 games. The only two games we played before New Year's that I didn't attend in person were Boise the day after Thanksgiving and UALR on the eve of New Year's Day (which is a bigger deal than Christmas to Greek people like my mother).

I didn't do that so I could see a good effort or the baby steps in the "25 year plan" I never proposed but keep getting mocked over. I honestly thought this was the year we could get those OOC upsets on the road. Even after Dom's injury, I thought we could get 15 conference wins this year.

It's just such a beating dealing with our fan base sometimes. If I do end up having to leave GMG, I'm not sure if I'll miss it very much. Thank goodness this place, even if it is a tiny community, isn't more widely known.
