Possible Recruiting Coup for NT 2 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 4
Jacob Holmen of Whitehouse , Texas was at the Saturday basketball practice. Holmen is apparently a very fast-rising sleeper. He has gone from #48 in the Texas Hoops' ratings to being one of the state's "Magnificent Seven" according to Texas Preps magazine.

There he is with the Texas HS basketball elite.

I had to run to Hastings and buy the magazine. Here is what Texas Preps says:

The magnificent seven who appear on the cover of Texas Preps Basketball Magazine enter their senior seasons with tremendous futures ahead.

Here are the thumbnails on the seven with comments by Mark McKee.

Jacob Holmen
Whitehouse
6'8 205

Jacob is one of the best kept secrets in the state. He is long and lean with outstanding three point range, a great shot blocker and runs the court. He is undecided at this time about his college choice.

Man, I just came from borders and thumbed through that very magazine thinking that those guys on the cover were players that were probably out of our league. Lets get him signed!

Kid has a good outside game like Fred Mitchell. Tall & lanky with a good perimeter shot.Saw his team play SOC at the Regional quarterfinals in Garland last year. He'd be ok. Not great but a contributor.

I was told that we're battling UTEP and Boise State for this young man.

If those are the main rivals for his services....I like our chances. Plus, I was told his folks want him to go to NT.

Boise State was really solid last year with 25 wins and an NCAA bid. UTEP is usually a good program...arguably has more history than any University in Texas(and not just because their title, Haskins won over 700 games out there).

If his folks want him to come to Denton, then I like our chances. But otherwise I would think it'd be a dogfight to get the young man. However, JJ does pull the occassional rabbit out of the hat with kids he picks up.
